Section 54
Functions of Co-operative Banks
: A Co-operative Bank may perform the following functions among its member organizations or associations subject to this Act, rules, regulations made under this Act and other applicable laws:-
(a) To provide loans to organizations or associations for agriculture, industry, services, trade, energy, tourism, etc., in the ratio specified as fixed and working capital,
(b) To accept savings from members and to pay such savings,
(c) For the development and promotion of the cooperative sector, members are concentrated and joint investments are made with the association, organization or Nepal government or state government agency or with the local level,
(d) To issue a bond on behalf of the member organizations or associations, to take security for such bond or to take mortgage of movable and immovable property or to take such bond with the consent of a third party,
(e) To take institutional loans as per requirement,
(f) To collect interest on loans, bonds etc.,
(G) To inspect, supervise and monitor whether the loan provided by him has been utilized or not,
(h) To purchase and sell bonds issued by the Government of Nepal or treasury bills issued by Nepal Rastra Bank (j) To exchange information between the organization or association and its affiliated members,
(j) To take savings, make payments, transfer money through electronic devices or means (k) to borrow or re-borrow as required,
(l) To transfer funds received from international recognized organizations related to cooperatives, donor agencies, banks etc. in the form of development, finance or credit for project promotion or to manage such resources,
(D) To conduct studies, research, survey related to project establishment, operation and evaluation,
(d) To take the license of Nepal Rastra Bank to conduct other banking transactions.
